OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN

Be Fed Foundation Welcomes You

Giving Back to our Hometown

Hello and welcome to our community garden project, located on Millbrook Fields Farm in Boxford, MA. Each year we spent a good chunk of our summer coming out here to water, care, and watch our produce grow rapidly. Participating in the garden has been so life changing, and we love sharing this journey with others for enlightenment and education. Check out all we do down below!

Above is a series of videos from our tik tok this past summer where we documented educational videos, real moments, and our progress as a nonprofit organization. Currently we are looking for more volunteers to help us run our 2025 garden. Message us on our contact page if you are interested in helping out!

And follow us on Tik Tok, LinkedIn, and YouTube @befedfoundation to see where our journey goes.

How It Works

The garden season runs from late April - late September each year.

Garden Set Up

In early May we come out to mow, till, and compost the land to prep the garden. This leads us to set up the fence, lay down weed tarps, and start spacing out our seeds. We grow cucumbers, zucchini, squash, cabbage, beets, carrots, and more.

Watering Cycle

Once the seeds are planted, we test our watering cycle (generator powered) and come out a couple times a week to water each plant for the majority of the season. We plant over 100+ plants so it's crucial to have an effective watering system in case of a dry season.

Harvest

Our first harvest is usually early July. We have about 3-4 harvest cycles of us bringing produce to food banks. This lasts until the beginning of September. We harvest around 250+ pounds each year, approximately a $600.00 dollar value worth of produce.

Harvest Distribution

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in harvesting our produce from the community garden and transporting it to local food banks. This process happens 2-3 times during the season.

Watering Cycle

Perhaps the most important volunteer work: our watering cycle. We have each individual come out once a week to water our garden. We keep this feature to engage the community and have them be a part of the process from seeding to harvest.

Garden Set Up

This is the 3 day period of initially setting up the garden from tilling, spacing, seeding, fertilizing, and fencing the garden so it's ready for the watering cycle. This usually takes a few hands and the help is always needed!

Better Equipment

In 2023 on tik tok we took you through our challenges at the garden and one of those being the need for better equipment. This year, we're planning on putting down weed tarps to lower maintenance and better fencing to keep out wildlife from our garden! (:
